Core Values

Semillas y Raíces is based on Indigenous perspectives of community building, healing, and accountability, yet it actively invites and encourages multicultural dialogue and pluricultural conversations work to develop new realities and set healthy boundaries.

Community Building

We acknowledge the ancient cultures of the so-called American continent. We recognize the suffering of those who are the survivors of the slave trade in the Americas. We honor the contributions of old and contemporary migrant communities to our society. We honor and welcome all co-cultures like the ones that make up the LGBTQ+ who are not part of the mainstream and are actively working for social justice and change. We respect, cherish and encourage body and sex-positive manifestations and dialogues at our gatherings. We welcome all refugees to this part of their mother earth.

Community Healing

We honor and respect the initiatives of those spaces that tend to affinity groups for people of color, and we contribute willingly to those initiatives in other areas of our work as Semillas y Raíces, and by request. When we do this, it can be done as a uniform community collaboration or an individual and public effort.

Community Accountability

We do have biases, we are aware of privilege residing in social class, skin color, gender, colonial legacies and social networks. However, we also believe that it requires all of us to find and create respectful spaces that radically and unreasonably humanize everyone; while at the same time doing our best to destroy hierarchies, decolonizing narratives, and de-traumatizing the self and community.

We do not welcome sexism, ableism, discrimination based on skin color, blood quantum narratives, migratory status, colonial legacy or criminal past and negative geographical hierarchy. Anyone who wants to be in community, contribute to community building, and willing to growth and do personal transformation is welcome.
